Finite Element Analysis of a Steel Plate With and Without a Crack

In this research, a steel plate is analyzed using a computer modeled finite element program. The plate is subjected to a 20 MPa loading in the horizontal direction and two specific cases of the steel plate are considered. One case analyzes the plate when there is no crack. The other case analyzes the plate when a small crack (notch) is present on a single side of the plate. For both cases the stresses, strains and displacements on the plate are computed and discussed
