planning for development of land on or close to active faults: some guidelines for Iran

in this paper we try to draw an outline of some guideline for development of cities near active faults in countries that located on earthquake belt such as iran this will help local authorities to minimize the hazard risk and the time it takes for individuals communities and the government to recover from a fault rupture the approaches presented in this paper will help planners emergency managers earthscientists and people in the building industry to avoid or mitigate the fault rupture hazard. here some principles are mentioned and some practical issues are discussed such as mapping faults in a variety of scales that may influence on decisions make by planner .
