assessment of the reconstruction of bazaar , following the 2003 bam earthquake

on january 2003 a destructive earthquake hit bam in kerman province Iran . The area of the city market traditional baazar was completely damaged the death toll was not only high amongst shopkeepers the destruction reduced the sense of safety and security . in reconstruction the baazar context has been designated and implementd as an integrated and modern city view with modular design without considering the type of user's economic function. this unique facades in design process reduced the traditional identity and sense of belonging which were existed prior to earthquake . one of the problems of reconstruction is creating unused spaces in basements and first floors of shops due to lack of proper accessand useless porches with improper design.
